A call number is like a street address: it tells you where the book is located in the library. Call numbers are physically labeled on the spines of books and are in the library's catalog. They group books by subject area, so you can often find other related books on the same shelf, or nearby. The University of Louisville's Ekstrom Library has a good quick guide to reading call numbers.
You will likely see in IUCAT, the library's catalog, that our books are located in the STACKS - this area is the rows of bookshelves up on the 3rd floor of the Library. You'll need the call number of the book to find it upstairs.
